Large commercial arrays keep their inverters and battery

Quoting a large commercial array is fixed in three places. Choosing inverters no longer times out on arrays of several hundred panels. A battery package that cannot be matched to a battery now falls back to inverters instead of quoting panels alone. And automatic battery sizing no longer comes back as zero on sites that generate far more than they use.

  • Inverter choice no longer times out on very large arrays. Arrays of several hundred panels took long enough to price that the quote gave up. Mixed combinations are now searched up to three inverters, and longer runs use multiples of a single inverter, so the search stays quick as the array grows.
  • A battery package never quotes panels on their own. If no battery and inverter combination in the package suits the design, the cheapest string, micro or hybrid inverters are chosen instead. This applies to the Solar Quote Tool and the Commercial Solar Quote Tool.
  • Automatic battery sizing on high-generation commercial sites. The recommended capacity came back as zero where generation was large next to consumption, which also cost the package its inverters. The self-consumption threshold is now ignored where meeting it would need more than one full battery cycle a day, and sizing follows the financial benefit of each extra kWh instead.
